WBB: Wildcats Shows Resilience in 76–66 Loss to Golden Eagles

Utica, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly women's basketball team battled through four competitive quarters but ultimately fell to SUNY Brockport, 76–66, in a tightly contested non-conference matchup. The Wildcats are now 3-11 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

SUNY Poly came out active defensively in the opening quarter, forcing early turnovers and controlling the glass. Kayla Wilson opened the scoring with a tip-in before Alysa Jackson added a layup off a feed from Bryanna Lucas to give the Wildcats an early edge. After Brockport briefly pulled ahead behind transition baskets, SUNY Poly answered with strong perimeter shooting. Isabella Kroll knocked down a three, Alivia Turk added a jumper, and Jackson finished inside late in the quarter. Turk capped the period with a three in the final minute as the Wildcats closed the first on a 9–0 run to take a 16–10 lead.

The second quarter featured back-and-forth action as Brockport trimmed the deficit with three-point shooting and fastbreak opportunities. Kelsey Meca extended SUNY Poly's lead at the free-throw line, while Lucas continued to attack the paint with a pair of layups. Kroll and Jackson each connected from deep to keep the Wildcats in front, but Brockport responded with timely baskets to stay close. Turk scored inside in the final seconds of the half, sending SUNY Poly into the break with a 33–30 advantage.

Brockport opened the third quarter aggressively, briefly taking the lead before SUNY Poly responded. Sanaa Lee and Jackson finished at the rim, and Wilson added a midrange jumper to keep the score tight. Turk drilled a three midway through the quarter to push the Wildcats back in front, while Meca and Lee provided key defensive stops. The teams traded the lead several times down the stretch, but a late Brockport three gave the visitors a slim 54–52 edge heading into the fourth.

The Wildcats stayed within striking distance early in the final period as Meca and Turk connected from beyond the arc, tying the game at 58. Brockport, however, found momentum with consecutive baskets in transition and a three-pointer to regain control. Despite free throws from Jackson and a late three from Turk, SUNY Poly struggled to slow Brockport's offense down the stretch. The Golden Eagles capitalized on turnovers and second-chance opportunities to extend the lead into double digits, sealing the 76–66 decision.
