Utica, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly baseball team secured a home victory after defeating the Keuka College Wolves by a score of 11-7. Freshman Luke Landis continued his monster season, hitting two home runs and driving in 6 runs. The Wildcats are now 13-19 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the first inning, SUNY Poly wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard. After a leadoff walk to Quinn Hill and a hit-by-pitch to Ryan Pelton, Luke Landis crushed a three-run homer to left field, giving the Wildcats an early 3–0 lead. The inning didn't stop there—Colin Williams singled, and after a miscue at short, SUNY Poly tacked on another run on a groundout to make it 4–0.
Keuka tried to answer in the top of the second with a single, but the Wolves came up empty. The Wildcats pounced again in the bottom half. Hill doubled and Pelton walked before Landis delivered again, roping a two-run double. A sac fly from Tristan Allen pushed the lead to 7–0.
In the third, Keuka began to chip away. After loading the bases with two outs, they couldn't cash in. Meanwhile, SUNY Poly went quietly in the bottom half.
The Wildcats added one more in the fourth when Landis continued his tear with a solo shot, his second homer of the day, extending the lead to 8–0. But Keuka finally broke through in the fifth, chipping away at the score to make it 8-4.
Keuka added another in the sixth on a sacrifice fly, but SUNY Poly responded immediately. After a walk and a double, the Wildcats capitalized on an infield error and a clutch double from Tristan Allen to drive in three more and push the lead to 11–5.
The Wolves would add another run over the next couple of innings, but Joshua Slater would record the final four outs to give the Wildcats the 11-6 win.
