MLAX: Wildcats Stumble on the Road Against SUNY Delhi

Delhi, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's lacrosse team dropped their first game on the season, falling to the SUNY Delhi Broncos by a score of 18-6. Luke Taylor, Cooper Fitzgerald and Ryan Carroll all scored two goals for the Wildcats, while Joseph VanZandt made 20 saves in net.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The first quarter saw the Broncos seize early control of the game. After winning the opening faceoff, they quickly capitalized with two goals within the first few minutes. The Wildcats would quickly answer back, as Griffin LaFleur would net his fourth goal of the season to cut their deficit in half. The Broncos would go on to add a few goals late, and would enter the second quarter up by a score of 6-1.

The Wildcats started the second quarter strong, thanks to an unassisted goal from Cooper Fitzgerald. However, SUNY Delhi's offense kept clicking, with Shane Vonkampen and Chris Lazazzaro both adding goals. While the Wildcats continued to battle, which included late goals from Ryan Carroll and Payton Thomas, the Broncos remained in control, closing out the half with a 11-4 lead.

The third quarter was a more defensive-minded affair, with both teams struggling to break through offensively. Joseph VanZandt and Jayden Messina both stood strong in their nets, each limiting scoring chances from the opponents. Luke Taylor would add a goal on the board for the Wildcats, but the Broncos would add one of their own to keep a seven goal lead.

SUNY Delhi added a couple of goals early in the fourth, but the Wildcats kept fighting, as Ryan Carroll and Luke Taylor would score back-to-back. Cooper Fitzgerald would add another one to the wildcats tally, but the Broncos would go on to close the game out on top by a score of 18-6.
