WBB: Wildcats Seal Season Finale Victory Over Pioneers

Utica, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly women's basketball team wrapped up their 2024-25 season with a 49-38 win over the Utica University Pioneers. Alysa Jackson led the way for the Wildcats, finishing with 17 points and 8 steals, while SUNY Poly concluded their season with a record of 6-19.

The first half was a tight battle as both teams struggled to find offensive rhythm. SUNY Poly got off to a strong start, with Jackson scoring a layup to give them a 2-0 lead, but Utica responded quickly. Vanessa Hall scored a jumper and a free throw to tie the game at 11.

SUNY Poly's defense proved to be a key factor, as they forced turnovers with steals from Jackson and Kate Donnelly. Jackson capitalized on the steals, scoring multiple fastbreak layups and adding free throws to help her team build an 18-11 lead. Utica fought back, with Hall scoring tough layups in traffic to bring the score to 15-27.

Donnelly's outside shooting helped extend the lead further, as she knocked down several three-pointers, including a critical shot at 2:40 to put the Wildcats up 24-13. Hall continued to keep Utica in the game, adding two more layups, one of which was assisted by Hayleigh Lagase. At halftime, SUNY Poly led 27-15.

In the second half, SUNY Poly maintained control of the game. Baskets from Jackson would extend the lead to 14. The Wildcats would keep their momentum going with aggressive offense and tough defense. Sanaa Lee played a pivotal role, scoring multiple layups and grabbing key rebounds. Faith Wagner and Jackson also contributed points in the paint.

Utica attempted a comeback, with Emma Simmons hitting a three-pointer and Hall adding a couple of layups, but the Pioneers struggled to break through SUNY Poly's defense. Jackson's steals and strong rebounding from Lee and Wagner kept the Wildcats in control.

Despite a late push by Utica, including a three-pointer from Simmons, SUNY Poly's consistent scoring and team play sealed the win. The Wildcats secured the victory with a final score of 49-38.
