MVB: Wildcats Cruise Past Falcons

Utica, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team dominated the Fisher College Falcons in a 3-0 victory at home. The Wildcats, now 9-7 on the season, were led by strong performances from freshman duo Gianni Martino and Aiden Passmore.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the opening set, SUNY Poly took control early with a service ace from Aiden Passmore. Fisher briefly responded with a kill, but the Wildcats surged ahead, capitalizing on multiple attack errors from Fisher and a string of kills and aces from Zach Latino, Peter Gottler, and Joshua Slater. Fisher attempted a comeback with a few timely kills, but SUNY Poly's consistent offensive play and Fisher's mistakes helped the Wildcats maintain their lead. Despite a short rally from the Falcons, which included a kill from Thomas Bollentin and an error by Latino, the Wildcats closed out the set with a final kill from Zach Latino, winning 25-8.

The second set saw Fisher come out strong, taking a 4-1 lead with early kills from Carlos Diaz and Jordon Ford, as well as a service ace from Diaz. While the Wildcats struggled with errors, they fought back with kills from Aiden Passmore and a service error from Fisher. The teams exchanged points as Fisher held a slight edge. However, SUNY Poly responded with service aces from Gianni Martino and key kills, including one from Passmore to tie the game at 9-9. Both teams had brief error streaks, but SUNY Poly capitalized with several key kills as Fisher continued to struggle with attack errors. The Wildcats closed out the set strong, finishing 25-14.

In the third set, SUNY Poly took an early lead thanks to a service ace from Passmore and a series of attack errors from Fisher. Despite early struggles, Fisher managed to close the gap with solid kills from Diaz and a service ace from Dangelo Jimenez. SUNY Poly, however, responded with kills from Thomas McNulty and Zach Latino, holding on to their lead. Fisher battled back with a mix of errors and key plays, including a nice set from Pierre Mark and a kill from Diaz. But SUNY Poly's consistent offense, including contributions from Forest Chaput and Gianni Martino, kept them in control. Fisher tried to rally with a service ace from Jimenez to cut the lead to 24-12, but a service error by Jimenez sealed the set for the Wildcats, 25-12.
