WBB: Wildcats Pick Up Second Straight Win, Down the Wolves 61-51

Keuka, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly women's basketball team earned their second consecutive victory, defeating the Keuka College Wolves 61-51. Alysa Jackson led the Wildcats with 27 points on 10-of-18 shooting, while Alivia Turk dominated the boards with a game-high 16 rebounds. The win brings SUNY Poly's record to 5-18 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The game began with both teams struggling to find their rhythm, but Keuka's Brooke Burd quickly made her presence felt, grabbing multiple rebounds. The Wolves jumped out to a 9-4 lead with Burd's jumper and a three-pointer from Mary Cotter. The Wildcats responded with a pair of layups from Jackson to keep it close.

Keuka extended its lead to 15-8 on a three-pointer by Sydney Brown, but SUNY Poly fought back. Kate Donnelly's three-pointer cut the deficit to 15-11, and Cotter's two free throws gave Keuka a 17-13 lead as the quarter ended.

Keuka began the second quarter with a layup to push the lead to 19-13, but the Wildcats quickly responded. Jackson hit a three-pointer, making it 16-19. Both teams exchanged baskets throughout the quarter, with Burd's layup and a three-pointer by Keuka's Mullen briefly giving the Wolves a 25-24 advantage.

In the final moments of the half, Jackson knocked down another layup and a three-pointer, giving the Wildcats a lead they would not relinquish. After more back-and-forth scoring, SUNY Poly led 30-28 at halftime.

The Wildcats came out strong in the third quarter, with Hannah Shipley hitting a three-pointer to extend the lead to 33-28. Jackson followed up with two free throws, pushing the advantage to 35-28. Keuka responded with a layup, but Shipley quickly added another basket to keep SUNY Poly ahead.

The Wolves struggled with missed shots and turnovers, while SUNY Poly capitalized with solid defense and timely scoring. Faith Wagner's three-pointer and a layup by Turk pushed the Wildcats' lead to 42-34. Though Keuka hit a late three-pointer, SUNY Poly held a 42-37 lead heading into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter saw the Wildcats continue to build their lead. Donnelly hit two free throws after a fast break, followed by a three-pointer to make it 47-37. Turk and Jackson added key baskets, while Keuka answered with points from Cotter and others, narrowing the gap to 50-41.

Despite a late three-pointer from Keuka, Jackson's layups and free throws, including clutch fastbreak points, kept the Wildcats in control. With SUNY Poly's defense forcing turnovers and securing rebounds, the Wildcats sealed a 61-51 victory.
