WBB: Wildcats Drop Home Battle to the Cardinals

Utica, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly women's basketball team suffered a 58-33 loss to the St. John Fisher Cardinals at home. Freshman Sanaa Lee led the Wildcats with 10 points and eight rebounds. The loss drops SUNY Poly's record to 3-16 on the season.

How It Happened:
The first quarter was a tough one for the Wildcats, as they struggled with missed shots, including several layups and 3-pointers. St. John Fisher capitalized on these missed opportunities, securing rebounds and pushing the pace. Katie Moravec was instrumental in the early lead for the Cardinals, scoring multiple times, including a jumper and a layup. Emily McLaughlin also contributed with a 3-pointer and jumper, while Presleigh Brunner added another basket.

SUNY Poly's turnovers further hindered their chances, with St. John Fisher's defense causing problems with multiple steals, including key plays from Moravec and Sidney Tomasso. St. John Fisher ended the quarter with a commanding 20-2 lead.

The second quarter started with a strong layup from SUNY Poly's Alivia Turk, but St. John Fisher quickly responded with fast-break points, including a layup by Moravec. The Cardinals' defense remained aggressive, forcing turnovers and capitalizing on steals, while Danielle Seamon and Kelly Moravec added baskets. St. John Fisher entered halftime with a 39-12 lead.

The third quarter saw St. John Fisher continue to extend their lead with efficient scoring and stifling defense. SUNY Poly's Sanaa Lee hit a jumper, but Sidney Tomasso quickly answered with a layup and a 3-pointer. The Cardinals dominated the boards, with key rebounds from Hannah Ferguson and Kelsey Moravec. Despite some good individual plays, the Wildcats struggled to find consistency, and by the end of the third, St. John Fisher led 50-21.

In the fourth, the Cardinals kept control, rotating players and maintaining a strong defensive presence. Quick layups from Katie Moravec and McLaughlin extended the lead to 54-21. SUNY Poly's Alysa Jackson answered with a 3-pointer, and Lee contributed a layup, but it wasn't enough to overcome St. John Fisher's defense. The game finished with St. John Fisher securing a 58-33 victory.

Despite the loss, Lee and Jackson fought hard for the Wildcats, but the team's struggles with turnovers and missed shots prevented any sustained comeback.
