WBB: Wildcats Fall to Oswego State At Home

Utica, N.Y. — The SUNY Poly women's basketball team dropped a 70–33 decision to Oswego State at home on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Wildcats record to 2-5 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Oswego State jumped out quickly in the opening quarter, capitalizing on SUNY Poly turnovers to build early momentum. Back-to-back steals led to fastbreak points, and a pair of three-pointers from Zhane Holmes pushed the Lakers out to a 9–0 advantage.

SUNY Poly got on the board midway through the quarter as Alysa Jackson finished a layup in the paint off an offensive rebound. Bryanna Lucas followed with a strong drive to the basket to help cut into the deficit. Sanaa Lee was active defensively, collecting rebounds and altering shots inside, while Alivia Turk knocked down a pair of free throws to bring the Wildcats within 14–8 late in the frame.

Isabella Kroll added a jumper with under two minutes remaining, but Oswego closed the quarter with a putback to take a 16–10 lead after one.

The second quarter saw SUNY Poly generate multiple second-chance opportunities, highlighted by a Kayla Wilson tip-in at the 5:30 mark. Kirsten Lighthall added a layup off a nice feed from Kelsey Meca, and Jackson converted a three-point play to pull the Wildcats within single digits midway through the period.

Oswego State responded with timely baskets in transition and from beyond the arc, extending its lead with another three from Jazmyn Lewis and a late fastbreak layup. Despite SUNY Poly's effort on the glass, the Lakers carried a 30–17 advantage into halftime.

Oswego continued its momentum after the break, opening the third quarter with consecutive scores, including a three from Sydney Hoefs. The Wildcats answered with a Jackson layup, but Oswego's perimeter shooting remained hot as Hoefs and Sarah Hirschler connected from long range to stretch the lead.

SUNY Poly continued to compete defensively, with blocks from Lee and Kelsey Meca and steady rebounding from Kayla Wilson. Turk added another pair of free throws, but Oswego closed the quarter with a flurry of threes to take a 55–21 lead into the final period.

The Wildcats opened the fourth quarter with renewed energy, forcing turnovers and converting in transition. Jackson and Jenna Kocienda scored on back-to-back fastbreak layups to spark a quick run. Kocienda later added another basket in the paint, while Lucas and Meca contributed at the free-throw line.

Lee recorded multiple defensive stops, including a block and rebound sequence, as SUNY Poly continued to battle until the final horn. Turk added a late layup, and Jackson capped the Wildcats' scoring with a bucket inside, but Oswego closed the game strong to secure the 70–33 victory.
