WSOC: Wildcats Fall on the Road to the Golden Eagles

Brockport, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly women's soccer team fell 9–0 on the road against The SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles. Despite the lopsided scoreline, goalkeeper Samantha Barrett turned in a valiant performance for the Wildcats, recording a remarkable total of 20 saves while facing heavy offensive pressure throughout the contest. With the loss, SUNY Poly moves to 1–10–1 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Brockport came out firing from the opening whistle, putting Barrett to the test early with a series of shots in the opening minutes. The Wildcats' keeper made key stops on attempts by Caitlin Nelson (5') and Megan Gates (7') before the Golden Eagles broke through in the 9th minute when Jordan Chizuk scored the opening goal off a feed from Megan Gerber.

Brockport continued to press, earning multiple corner kicks and keeping Poly pinned deep in its own half. In the 28th minute, Gerber doubled the lead with her second goal of the day, followed by tallies from Kaitlyn Spring (35') and Amelia Breton (40') as Brockport carried a 4–0 advantage into halftime.

Barrett's first-half effort was tireless, turning away a barrage of close-range shots from Tamara Honcharuk, Ella Camalleri, and Chiara Torriani to keep the score within reach heading into the break.

The second half saw more of the same as Brockport maintained control of possession and continued to generate chances. Barrett made saves on McKenna Slate (49', 52', 67') and Madyson Whalen (49', 53'), but the Golden Eagles eventually extended their lead in the 74th minute when Slate converted off a Marisa Closson corner to make it 5–0.

Brockport's attack erupted late, adding goals from Alana Yahoudy (77'), Breton (77'), and Gerber twice more (79', 81') to close out the match. Barrett continued to battle until the final whistle, stopping several more attempts in the closing minutes, including saves on Mackenzie Bieger (82') and Lucy Crounse (85').

The Wildcats will look to regroup when they hit the road for a midweek matchup against the MCLA Trailblazers on Wednesday, October 8 at 6:00 p.m.
