Utica, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly men's soccer team battled to a 1–1 draw against the Alfred University Saxons in their final game of the season. The Wildcats showed grit on both sides of the ball, highlighted by a penalty-kick goal from Dominick Spychalski and a strong outing in net from Tyler Barth, who made several key stops throughout the match. With the result, SUNY Poly moves to 4-12-2 (2-8-1 Empire 8) to close out the regular season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The match opened with both teams trading early chances. SUNY Poly's LaEh Soe and Colby Diamond tested Alfred goalkeeper Tyler Mulholland with shots on target, while Barth made multiple saves of his own — including efforts from Hamza Kromah and Jesus De La Torre — to keep the game scoreless through the opening 25 minutes.
Alfred broke through in the 27th minute when De La Torre finished a feed from Rodrigo Perez, giving the Saxons a 1–0 advantage. The Wildcats continued to generate pressure with a series of corner kicks and substitutions, but Mulholland's steady play kept SUNY Poly off the board through halftime.
SUNY Poly responded quickly in the second half. After sustained possession and an Alfred foul in the box, Spychalski stepped to the spot and calmly buried the equalizer in the 53rd minute, knotting the match at 1–1.
From there, both teams traded momentum. Barth came up big once again, denying a penalty kick attempt by Alfred's Xavier Bowman in the 77th minute to preserve the tie. SUNY Poly continued to push forward with late efforts from Soe, Jael Casimir, and Nick Pepe, but none found the back of the net.
Despite several late fouls and corners from both sides, neither team could break the deadlock, and the contest concluded in a 1–1 draw.
The Wildcats end their season with a final record of 4-12-2 (2-8-1 Empire 8)
