Rochester, N.Y. — The SUNY Poly women's volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision to the St. John Fisher University Cardinals on Saturday afternoon, falling 3–0 by scores of 25–10, 25–11, and 25–9. The Wildcats are now 6-16 (0-9 Empire 8) on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the opening set, SUNY Poly got off to a balanced start, trading early points before Fisher settled into rhythm behind a long service run. Daniella Aluisio and Kassity Cruz each contributed key kills for the Wildcats, while Grace Southwick and Teagan Hopkins helped distribute the offense from the setter position. Defensively, Samantha Dee provided steady play in the back row, but Fisher's aggressive serving created separation midway through the frame as the Cardinals pulled away for the 25–10 win.
Set two saw Poly show more energy out of the gate, highlighted by a pair of early kills from Avery Droszd and strong serving from Abby Newell. Kylee DeCarr added a kill and a service ace to help the Wildcats keep pace through the first rotation, but St. John Fisher again used timely serving runs to extend its lead. The Wildcats continued to battle defensively, with Erica Mumbulo and Dee making key digs, but the Cardinals closed the set 25–11 to go up 2–0.
In the third, SUNY Poly continued to fight behind kills from Southwick, Droszd, and Dee, while Aluisio remained a reliable attacking option on the outside. The Wildcats showed resilience in long rallies, but Fisher's strong service game and quick offensive tempo proved difficult to slow. The Cardinals completed the sweep with a 25–9 final set.
