Potsdam, N.Y - The SUNY Poly women's soccer team was handed their first loss of the season, after falling to the SUNY Potsdam Bears by a score of 5-2. Kate Donnelly and Aubree Smykla were the goal scorers for the Wildcats, while goalkeepers Katie Bowers and Michalyn Fagan combined to make 11 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bears came out firing in the first half, scoring three goals on 15 shots. The Wildcats put a few shots of their own on goal, but all were turned away by SUNY Potsdam goalkeeper, Caroline Vines, giving the Bears a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
SUNY Poly struck first in the second half, thanks to Hannah Shipley connecting with Aubree Smykla at the 48th minute mark. The Wildcats would not be able to build off of the momentum, as Potsdam would score two goals in less than four minutes, extending their lead to four goals. Kate Donnelly would add a second goal for the Wildcats in the 80th minute on a setup from Aubree Smykla. The Wildcats would ultimately fall to the Bears by a score of 5-2.
