Utica, N.Y - Senior Forward Hannah Shipley and Freshman Midfielder Yannick Diaby have been named Wildcats of the week for their impressive opening weekend tournament performances.
Hannah Shipley has been named a "Wildcat of the Week" after starting her season strong, registering two goals and an assist in the Wildcats season-opening weekend tournament. Shipley's strong weekend started on Friday against the SUNY Canton Kangaroos, where she picked up a goal and an assist. Her strong performance led SUNY Poly to a 2-0 victory, and put the Wildcats in position for a chance to win SUNY Poly's "Opening Weekend Tournament." Shipley would pick up her second goal of the weekend on Saturday, scoring in the 48th minute of the Wildcats 3-0 win vs the Herkimer Generals.
Yannick Diaby has earned the second "Wildcat of the Week" Honor, following his defensive-minded efforts in the Wildcats opening games of the season. Beginning with Sarah Lawrence, Diaby always kept the ball in front of him, helping the Wildcats to a 3-0 victory. Diaby followed his efforts up on Saturday against New Paltz, once again playing strong defense and leaving the opponents scoreless in a 1-0 Wildcat victory. Diaby's sound defensive play earned him tournament Defensive Player MVP honors.
