Box Score Utica, N.Y - The SUNY Poly Women's soccer team kicked off their season with a solid 2-0 victory over SUNY Canton. Graduate forward Kate Donnelly and senior forward Hannah Shipley each scored a goal for the Wildcats, while goalkeepers Michalyn Fagan and Katie Bowers combined for four saves. The team will quickly shift focus as they prepare to face the Herkimer Generals on August 31st.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Wildcats wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with Hannah Shipley assisting Kate Donnelly for a goal just seven minutes into the match, giving SUNY Poly an early 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats would get a few more shots on goal in the first half, but a strong defensive style of play from both teams would keep the score 1-0 through halftime.
In the second half, the Wildcats increased their offensive pressure, taking six shots. Hannah Shipley would be the only one in the half to put one past the keeper, scoring at the 61st minute mark to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. The Wildcats stood strong defensively for the rest of the half, leaving the SUNY Canton Kangaroos scoreless and securing a 2-0 victory.
