SUNY Poly Announces Hiring of New Women's Volleyball Head Coach

Utica, N.Y. - SUNY Polytechnic Institute Director of Athletics, John Czarnecki, is pleased to announce the hiring of Daniel Short as the new head coach of the women's volleyball program. Short, who has made a significant impact in his first year as the head coach of the men's volleyball team, will now take on the added responsibility of leading the women's team beginning in the 2025 season.

Short brings a wealth of experience to the women's program. Under his leadership, the men's volleyball team achieved historic milestones this past season, including an above .500 record for the first time in program history and an NEVC playoff berth. His deep understanding of the sport, along with his ability to build a winning culture, positions him well to elevate the women's volleyball program to new heights.

"We are thrilled to have Dan lead both of our volleyball programs," said SUNY Poly Athletic Director John Czarnecki. "Having seen the tremendous progress he has made with the men's team, we are confident that his leadership, vision, and passion for the game will bring great success to the women's program as well."

Short, a native of Napanoch, N.Y., is a graduate of Tri-Valley Central School (2013) and holds a bachelor's degree in health sciences from Mercy College. He went on to earn a second bachelor's degree in physical education from Russell Sage College and a master's degree from SUNY Brockport. In addition to his coaching experience, Short recently taught physical education at Edmeston Central School, where he further honed his skills in mentoring and motivating students.

"I'm truly grateful and excited to head up both the men's and women's volleyball programs at SUNY Poly," said Short. "I look forward to working with all of the student-athletes and wonderful coaching and athletic staff at SUNY Poly!"
