Box Score 2 BROOKLYN, N.Y.- Despite two late inning rallies, the SUNYIT Men's baseball team (4-6, 0-0 NEAC) was unable to overcome CCNY (5-3), dropping both games 5-4, and 8-4.
The Wildcats bats got off to an ice cold start as they were unable to push across a run until the 5th inning of game one. It was the stellar pitching of freshmen right hander Sawyer Haney (Cooperstown, N.Y. / Cooperstown) and solid defense that kept the Wildcats in the game.
Down 4-1 going into the final inning, the Wildcats managed to spark a 3 run rally led by pinch hit singles from Dominick Galimo (Utica, N.Y. / Notre Dame) and Gerald Milanes (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Santa Rosa de Lima H.S.) to get things rolling. After a two out single by Joseph O'Rourke (Camden, N.Y./ Camden) and a walk by Anthony Ragosta (Troy, N.Y./ Troy) the Wildcats were suddenly back in the game as the score was tied 4-4.
CCNY had the answer however, following a walk and hit batter, the Beavers got a single by Jacob Sonenshine to earn the win and take game one from the Wildcats.
Game two saw yet another slow start for the Wildcat bats. Despite pushing across two second inning runs, the Wildcats again had to rely on a 7th inning rally to get back into the game. This time however, the challenge was too great. Following a CCNY 4 run 6th inning the Wildcats were unable to push across the runs needed to overcome the 8-2 deficit and would eventually fall 8-4.
The Wildcats were led offensively by Joseph O'Rourke who went 4-7 on the day with a double and 2 RBI.
The Wildcats are back in action tomorrow as they take on St. Joseph's of Brooklyn at 10:00 and 12:00
