Second Half Scoring Surge Leads SUNYIT Past Cobleskill, 6-0

Box Score

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Men's Soccer Team (8-1-1, 5-1 NEAC) used a second-half surge to cruise to an easy conference victory on Saturday, 6-0 over the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers.

1st Half

SUNYIT out shot the Fighting Tigers 15 to 2 in the opening period, finding the net in the 10th minute to go up 1-0. Matt Arcidiacono (Oneonta, N.Y. / Oneonta) received an excellent pass from Josh Kimber (Chittenango, N.Y. / Chittenango) as he was streaking down the left side of the field, then expertly dribbled the ball enough to stay ahead of the defenders trailing at his feet before punching it past the Cobleskill keeper.

The Fighting Tigers had a couple chances of their own, as Mark Gaetano created a pair of free kicks for himself from just outside the SUNYIT penalty box. Gaetano put a good boot on each, but Malick Faye (Bronx, N.Y. / MLK) was there to make the save each time.

2nd Half

The Wildcats continued to pass the ball well in the second half, extending their lead in the 47th minute on a Nicholas McBride (Schenectady, N.Y. / Mohonasen) goal. Again it was Kimber on the assist, as the sure-footed senior dribbled the ball through the middle portion of the Cobleskill penalty box before delivering a pass to McBride on the right for an easy goal.

Kimber went on to have a big day, scoring his own goal later in the half on an assist by Bazo Coulibaly (Bronx, N.Y. / Kennedy). Kimber finished with four points on the day to lead all scorers.

The Wildcats opened it up the rest of the way, as Diego Montaleza (New York, N.Y. / MLK) later netted his team-leading 7th goal. Bryan Kilpatrick (Endicott, N.Y. / Union Endicott) was credited with an assist on the play, after making a nice up-field pass to Montaleza.

Finally, freshmen Francesco Tine (Chatham, N.Y. / Lowville) and Will Lopez (West Haverstraw, N.Y. / N. Rockland) got into the mix. Tine scored his second goal, while Lopez picked up a goal and an assist, both firsts for the freshman from West Haverstraw.

The Fighting Tigers continued to battle despite the score. Gaetano delivered a well-placed corner kick late in the game, but the Fighting Tigers were unable to get a body on it as SUNYIT would go on to preserve the shutout, 6-0.

The Wildcats will play another home game this Tuesday, as they host SUNY New Paltz in a non-conference match. Game time is set for 6:00 pm.
