PIONEERS TOP WILDCATS 6-1 IN CROSS-TOWN MATCHUP
UTICA, NY – The SUNYIT women's soccer team travelled to cross-town rivals Utica College this evening for a non-conference matchup. The Pioneers ousted the Lady Wildcats 6-1, with freshman Katie Wilday (Galway, NY/Galway) contributing the only goal for the Black and Royal.
Three players earned some time in the goal this evening with sophomore Aubrey Campbell (Auburn, NY/Auburn) stopping seven shots, freshman Francesca Palladino (Utica, NY/Utica Proctor) earning one and sophomore Margaret Werenczak (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) finishing the game with two stops.
Utica's scoring was led by junior Samantha Spohler (East Durham, NY/Cairo Durham) and sophomore Sarah Southwell (Rome, NY/Rome) who recorded two goals each. Freshman Emily Brien (Syracuse, NY/West Genessee) and senior Chelsea Way (Cuyler, NY/DeRuyter ) put in one a piece.
Senior goalkeeper, Samantha Glockling (Carleton Place, ONT/Tilton School) tallied two saves this evening and was credited with the win.
The Wildcats are on the road this weekend for some NEAC action. On Saturday they take on Wilson College in Philadelphia, PA at 1 p.m. and then travel to Morristown, NJ on Sunday to play The College of St. Elizabeth, also a 1 p.m. start.
