WASHINGTON, D.C. – The SUNYIT Wildcats
began October with a bang, defeating Gallaudet by a score of 8
goals to nil. Midfielder Diego Montaleza (New York, NY/MLK)
continued his standout season with a hat trick three-goal
performance en route to an easy victory.
Despite the offensive explosion, Wildcat coach Pete Jerome
praised his defense:
“Our defense in general has played very well – this
is our fourth conference game that we've held the other team
to no goals; hopefully we can keep it going.”
The conference-leading Wildcats dominated wire to wire, holding
a 23 to 5 shots advantage while taking 8 corner kicks to the
Bison's two. Montaleza kicked off the scoring with a goal in
the 16th minute, then recorded his second in the
28th minute to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead. Senior
forward Nico Facey (New York, NY/George Westinghouse) added
back-to-back goals to put the 'Cats up 5-0 at halftime.
Rounding out the scoring for the Wildcats in the second half
were Montaleza (completing his hat trick), Joe Pfaffenberger
(Chester, NY/Warwick Valley) , Josh Kimber (Chittenango,
NY/Chittenango) and Cameron Adams (Groton, NY/Tompkins
Cortland).
