Schenectady, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly men's soccer team fell 5-2 to Union College on Wednesday evening. HOW IT HAPPENED:

Union opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Kofi Sarfoh found the back of the net to give the Garnet Chargers a 1-0 lead. Union continued to pressure the Wildcats, with Sarfoh and Ryan Morris recording shots before Eamonn Kelley struck the woodwork in the 20th minute.

SUNY Poly answered in the 24th minute when Johnpaul Jerome scored to level the match at 1-1. Just over a minute later, Marcus Cole gave the Wildcats the lead, scoring in the 25th minute to make it 2-1.

The Wildcats maintained their advantage through the remainder of the opening half. Union continued to create opportunities, including shots from David Dolores, Joseph Carofano, Dillan Akinc and Luke Ingber, but Barth and the SUNY Poly defense kept the Garnet Chargers off the scoreboard. SUNY Poly took its 2-1 lead into halftime.

The second half began with both teams looking for the next goal. Nick Pepe put an early shot on target for the Wildcats in the 51st minute, but Union goalkeeper Michael Karcher made the save. Barth answered with a stop of his own in the 54th minute, denying a shot from Cauan Souza.

Union quickly shifted the momentum shortly afterward. Eamonn Kelley scored in the 56th minute off an assist from Joseph Carofano to tie the match at 2-2. Just 31 seconds later, Matthew Hefferon scored off an assist from Kelley to put Union ahead 3-2.

SUNY Poly continued to battle and create chances. Lucas Russell tested Karcher in the 73rd minute, and Jerome put another shot on target moments later, but Karcher made the save on both attempts. Jerome added another shot in the 76th minute, but the Wildcats were unable to find the equalizer.
