Jerry Tine

Jerry Tine was named Head Coach of the SUNY Poly Men’s and Women’s Cross Country programs in 2024, bringing over three decades of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate levels to the Wildcats.

Tine returns to SUNY Poly with a deep-rooted passion for developing student-athletes and a proven track record of success. His coaching career began in 1987 at Eastern Kentucky University and includes impactful tenures at institutions such as Proctor High School, Utica College, Hamilton College, and most recently Hartwick College, where he led the men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field teams.

At Hamilton College, Tine spent 16 seasons as an assistant track & field coach, specializing in the pole vault, high jump, and horizontal jumps. During his time there, his athletes set seven school records and earned numerous conference and national accolades, including All-America honors. He coached NCAA qualifiers, ECAC and NESCAC champions, and helped guide multiple student-athletes to all-conference recognition across a variety of events.

Tine is a USA Track & Field Level I Certified Coach and has also served as the New York State coach for the USATF Olympic Pole Vault Development Committee. His influence extends beyond cross country and track & field; he has worked as a Physical Education Instructor for the Utica City School District since 1992 and also coaches gymnastics at the CNY Gymnastics Centre in Syracuse.

A graduate of SUNY Cortland with a B.S. in Physical Education, Tine went on to earn an M.S. in Physical Education from Eastern Kentucky University. He previously served as an assistant coach at SUNY Poly in 1989, making his return to the program a full-circle moment.
