WVB: Wildcats Earn Second Win of 2017, 3-1 Over Utica

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Wildcats (2-5) won their second consecutive game on Monday with a 3-1 win over Utica College (1-8). The Wildcats lost the first set 27-25 after a long back-and-fourth fight. Down 0-1 the Wildcats gathered their composure and won out in convincing fashion 25-14, 25-16, and 25-19.

Freshman Karlie King (Liverpool, N.Y.) was the x-factor for the Wildcats. King had a match high 19 kills on 46 swings (.304). She also had 3 service aces and seven digs.

The Wildcat service was the best it has been all season. Brittany Adams (Clifton Park, N.Y.) had a match high six service aces. As a team, Poly had 18 service aces setting a new single-game record in a four set match. The record prior to Monday was 16 against Penn St. Berks in 2013.   

Sydney Johnson (Nine Mile Falls, Wash.) had a solid all-around match. The junior setter had a match high 37 assists, hit .714 with six kills, had three service aces, and 16 digs.

Freshman Libero Kaley Pichura (Syracuse, N.Y.) had a match high 22 digs. Pichura also had a service ace in the win.

The Pioneers had some struggles as a team. They hit just .094 with 17 errors, had six blocking errors, and four ball-handling errors. Nicole Herringshaw had a team high 11 kills on 22 attempts. Hannah Voss had a team high four service aces.

The Wildcats next match will be at SUNY Cobleskill. The game will be the first NEAC Game of the season for the Wildcats who are 2-5 so far this season. The match is set for a 7:00 PM start.
