MVB: Wildcats Close Out Weekend With a 2-1 Record.

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team (10-14, 4-2 NEAC)  went 2-1 this weekend, splitting a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) games with Lancaster Bible (L) and St. Elizabeth (W) and winning a non-conference game against New Jersey City University.

Lancaster Bible - 3

(19-25, 18-25, 17-25)


On Friday night, the Wildcats faced the NEAC leading Chargers of Lancaster Bible in the first of their two NEAC games. The Wildcats were out-hit on attack and were out-blocked at the net. The Chargers hit .354 as a team and had four players with five or more kills. The Wildcats hit just .154 in the match and had two players with five or more kills.


  • Ryan Gloff (Brockport, N.Y.) led the way on the attack for the Wildcats. The junior hit a team high .316 on 19 attacks. He totaled eight kills, a service ace, and a block assist.
  • Donovan Suguitan (Clifton Park, N.Y.) also had eight kills for the Wildcats. Suguitan also had a service ace, two digs and two block assists.
  • Brian Malsan (Slingerlands, N.Y.) had a match high 12 digs for the Wildcats.
  • Nate Miller had a match high 15 kills, three block assists, four digs, and a service ace for the Chargers.
  • Lancaster Bible's Kasey Gentry had nine kills and six digs.

(25-6, 52-22, 25-14)


Game one on Saturday started with the Wildcats biggest set win of the season in a 25-6 routing of the Eagles where the Wildcats hit an outstanding .526 as a team. The rest of the match was smooth sailing for the Wildcats who closed out the match, securing their fourth NEAC win of the season.


  • Donovan Suguitan had a match high 10 kills on 19 swings. He hit .421 in the match and had a pair of service aces.
  • Garrett Hassard (Oneonta, N.Y.) had eight kills on 12 swings and had a career high three service aces.
  • Connor Schultz (Lancaster, N.Y.) racked up seven kills, two block assists, and a service ace.
  • Zach Goggin (Feeding Hills, Mass.) had 31 assists in the game, bringing his weekend total to 54 and his career total to 3,268.
  •  Emmanuel Adam led the Eagles with seven kills. He also had a match high 10 digs.

(25-11, 25-19, 25-19)


The Wildcats continued their dominance in the second match of the day on Saturday with a win over New Jersey City University (7-15). The Wildcats took set number one convincingly by a score of 25-11 before closing out the match with a pair of 25-19 wins. The 'Cats hit .338 as a team and nine service aces in the win.


  • Max Szuba (Irondequoit, N.Y.) was the kills leader for the Wildcats. He had seven kills on 24 swings and had 10 digs. Szuba also had a match high four service aces. He currently leads the Wildcats with 182 kills this season and is second on the team with 139 digs.
  • Andrew Bertino (Spencerport, N.Y.) had a match high 12 digs for the Wildcats.
  • Ryan Gloff and Donovan Suguitan each had six kills in the match. Gloff hit .714 and had a service ace and two digs. Suguitan hit .545 and had a pair of service aces.
  • Piotr Kasza (Queens, N.Y.) had a match high 36 assists, five digs, and two block assists in the match.
  • James Homan (Fairport, N.Y.) had five kills on eight swings, had three digs, and a service ace in the match.
  • JJ Berdecia had a team high seven kills for the Gothic Knights.
  • Luis Ayala, Edgar Crespo, and JJ Berdecia each had six digs in the match.



The Wildcats will close out their season next weekend with three matches at home. On Friday, April 6th the Wildcats will host NEAC foe Penn State Altoona at 7:00 PM. The Wildcats will host senior day festivities on Saturday, April 7th against Elmira at 12:00 PM and will face Wilson in the final NEAC match of the season at 4:00 PM. All three matches will take place at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field House.
