MVB: Wildcats Battle to a 2-1 NEAC Weekend With Wins Over D'Youville and Hilbert.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team had their first taste of NEAC Conference matches this weekend with a three match series against D'Youville, Medaille, and Hilbert. The Wildcats emerged 2-1, defeating D'Youville and Hilbert, but losing to first place Medaille. With the two wins, the Wildcats sit in third place in the NEAC.

The first match of the weekend against D'Youville ended with a 3-0 Wildcat win (27-25, 26-24, 25-20). Senior A.J. Davids (Hilton, N.Y. / Hilton HS) led the Wildcats with 11 kills. He hit .350 in the match on 20 attempts. Davids also had a service ace and three digs in the match. Ryan Gloff (Brockport, N.Y. / Brockport HS) hit a match best .538, registering 9 kills in 13 attempts. He also had two service aces. Zach Goggin (Feeding Hills, Mass. / Agawam HS) had 36 assists and seven digs in the match.

In the second match, the Wildcats ran into the defending NEAC Champion Medaille Mavericks. The Wildcats lost in three sets, battling for the first set (23-25), but dropping the second and third sets (16-25, 16-25). Ryan Gloff had a team leading nine kills, he hit .312 in the match. Max Szuba (Irondequoit, N.Y. / Irondequoit HS) recorded eight kills, a service ace, and five digs in the match. Nick Hagan (Hilton, N.Y. / Hilton HS) led all players with a .571 hitting percentage. He recorded five kills on seven attempts, and had two block assists.

In the third match the Wildcats battled back from a 2-0 deficit to win in five sets over Hilbert (23-25, 19 -25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-12) Zach Goggin set the pace for the Wildcats by recording a match high 43 assists, a match high 12 digs, three service aces, four kills, a solo block, and a block assist; a nice all around match for the Wildcat setter. Ryan Gloff and A.J. Davids each had a match high 17 kills. Gloff hit .367 and had three service aces, a block solo, a block assist, and a dig. Davids had 9 digs to go along with his big kill total.

The 2-1 weekend brings the Wildcats overall record to 8-4 (2-1 NEAC). The team will be back in action next weekend when they will travel to Keuka College for another three match NEAC weekend where they will take on Penn State Altoona, Lancaster Bible, and Wilson.
