ELMIRA, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Men's Volleyball Team (10-8, 3-4 NEAC) lost to two nationally ranked teams last Friday at Elmira College. Their first match of the day was against No. 6 Nazareth College and their second against the host, No. 15 Elmira College. Both matches resulted in a 3-0 loss for the Wildcats.
SUNY Poly played the Golden Flyers to scores of 25-11, 25-23, and 25-21. Evan Smith (Saugerties, N.Y. / Saugerties) and A.J. Davids (Hilton, N.Y. / Hilton) led the team in kills, both recording 6 in the match. Piotr Kasza (Mechowiec, Poland / Academy of American Studies) was the rock in the back for the Wildcats with 6 digs. Dan O'Connor (Latham, N.Y. / Shaker) wasn't far behind Kasza with 5 digs of his own. Zach Goggin (Feeding Hills, Mass. / Agawam), Jeff Knapp (Hamlin, N.Y. / Brockport), and Kasza each recorded 7 assists for the Wildcats, leading the team.
SUNY Poly's game against Elmira saw a total team effort in 25-17, 25-20, and 25-19 losses. Davids led the team in kills again, this time with 8. He wasn't alone as eight of his teammates recorded kills in the match as well. Justin Rich (Hamburg, N.Y. / Eden) led all players in digs with 8 in a match that saw seven others record digs. Goggin was the sole leader in assists this time around with 10.
The Wildcats return to action next Saturday and Sunday when they host a NEAC Crossover.
