BASE: Wildcats Struggle in NEAC Games in Pennsylvania

ABINGTON, PA. - The SUNY Poly baseball team struggled to find their groove this weekend losing four North Eastern Athletic Conference games to Penn State Berks and Penn State Abington. The Wildcats scored nearly 20 runs in the four games, but struggled to keep runs off the board. Poor defense and sub par pitching were major factors. The Wildcats made 18 errors in the field. The pitching staff allowed 24 earned runs with 27 walks.

The scores on Saturday were 13-4 and 15-3 against Penn State Berks. Saturday's scores were closer, with the Wildcats falling 9-7 in game one and 8-5 in game two. SUNY Poly is now 2-4 in NEAC play and are sixth in the NEAC standings.

  • John Andrews (Apalachin, N.Y.) hit .417 in the four games. The junior went 5-12 with two RBIs and a walk.
  • Nate Palmer (Marcy, N.Y.) led the Wildcats with three RBIs. He went 5-14 at the plate with a homerun and  a walk.
  • Connor Manderson (New Hartford, N.Y.) went 4-12 at the plate for the Wildcats. The senior drove in two runs and drew a walk.
  • Michael Losco (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Noah Vanderbeck (Saugerties, N.Y.) had solid showings at the plate in limited action. Losco went 3-8 with a run scored. Vanderbeck went 3-5 with a double, a walk, and two RBIs.
  • On the mound, Noah Vanderbeck was the standout. The junior threw nine innings in relief, allowing just one earned run in two appearances.

The Wildcats will return to the friendly confines of SUNY Poly's Peter A. Spina Field for a double header against NEAC foe Cobleskill. The games are scheduled for 2:00 and 4:00 PM on Wednesday, April 25th.
