Title: Sports Information Student Assistant
Phone: (315) 792-7515

Garrett Hassard enters his fourth year as Sports Information Student Assistant for SUNY Poly Athletics in 2019-20.

Hassard got into the Sports Information office from his inspiration, his father Geoff, and watching him revolutionize the department of SUNY Oneonta by being a catalyst behind live-streaming Division III sports; and most prominently streaming one of the first Women’s Soccer Championship matches in 2003 where SUNY Oneonta defeated Chicago 2-1 in Overtime. He would help out his dad whenever he needed it, whether that meant calling a basketball game or inputting statistics for a softball doubleheader; and this experience made Hassard’s transition into the department at SUNY Poly a smooth one.

As a student-athlete, Hassard is a three-year starter and a team captain for the Wildcats Men’s Volleyball team. He is currently seventh in program history in Total Blocks and Block Assists with 118 and 91 respectively, sixth in solo blocks with 27, and fifth in blocks per set with 0.61. On the attack, he also holds fifth in program history with a .305 hitting percentage. Hassard is also the Treasurer of the SUNY Poly S.A.A.C. for 2019, and named a NEAC Scholar-Athlete for the past two years.

Outside of the Athletics office, Hassard remains active in the SUNY Poly community. He is the Treasurer of the Student Government at Utica (SGU), started a recreational weight-lifting club (SUNY Poly Gainz Club), and participates in most of the events put on by the Campus Activities Board and After Hours Activities Board. Hassard has also been an Orientation Advisor for the Class of 2021 and 2022. Before assuming the role of Treasurer, Hassard got into the Assistant Treasurer position to learn the background of the financial policies that are used for running SGU and its six subsidiary organizations. These organizations put on events that are funded by the mandatory Student-Activity Fee all full-time students at SUNY Poly pay each semester, and Hassard is also the manager of the budget that allocates all of those funds.

Hassard is currently matriculated in the Accounting program at SUNY Poly and will be receiving his undergraduate degree in Accounting with a minor in Finance in May 2020. He plans to go into the M.S. program for Accountancy with a concentration in Forensic Accounting while being a Graduate Assistant for the Athletics office.

Hassard is a native from Oneonta, New York where he grew up for most of his childhood. He graduated from Oneonta Senior High School in 2016 where he was involved in numerous extracurricular activities. He enjoys going back home to his parents, Irene and Geoff, and his brother, Gunnar, during school breaks and occasional weekend visits.
