Patrick Baker enters his third year as the Sports Information Director at SUNY Poly in 2017-18.
In his first two years, Baker has taken the lead on many expansion projects for Wildcat Athletics. In 2015 Baker expanded the social media portfolio of SUNY Poly Athletics to include Instagram and Snapchat while working to extend the reach of the departments Facebook and Twitter pages.
Baker played an important part in the department’s rebranding effort after the institutions name change to SUNY Poly in 2015. This rebranding led to a redesign of the Departments website in 2016.
In 2016 Baker spearheaded the departments live streaming project, playing an integral part in the contract negotiations with Stretch Internet. This ultimately led to a multi-year contract with the industry leader. The Wildcats now stream almost every home event on their WildcatTV portal in full HD with sound, live statistics, and limited commentary. The department plans to expand the live coverage offerings in 2017-18.
Baker returned to his alma mater, SUNY Poly in 2015 where he majored in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in Engineering Technology. Baker was a four year starter for the Wildcats baseball team. He is the current career strikeouts leader with 155. He was named NEAC Pitcher of the Year in 2011, All-NEAC 1st Team in 2011, and All-NEAC 2nd Team in 2009 and 2012. In 2012 Baker was awarded the Utica Kiwanis Clubs Student-Athlete of the Year Award.
Baker was formerly a student-assistant in the sports information department from 2011-2013. He also served as the SUNY Poly Assistant Baseball Coach for 3 years 2013-15.
In 2012 Baker was one of 300 students nationwide selected to attend the NCAA Career in Sports Forum. The forum, held in Indianapolis, is where he discovered his passion for collegiate athletics.
Baker’s day-to-day responsibilities include game management, statistics, and media relations for all 12 SUNY Poly teams. He maintains the department’s website, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat. He is in charge of producing all live game content including live video, statistics, and commentary on the department’s WildcatTV portal. Baker is the North Eastern Athletic Conference’s (NEAC) women’s lacrosse liaison for the 2017-18 season. Baker also serves on the SUNY Poly Marketing Committee and Social Media Committee.
